if u want it to help out with left over waste, u want it opposite end to your filter inlet pipe. In my 130 gal I’m using 2x 550gph external filters and an 800gph wavemaker to help out with any flow deadspots. I use wavemakers as I find them far better. For waste purposes normally opposite of the inflow for filtration and centered. Looks like that’s what I’ll be getting!! Lol where is it normally positioned in the tank? (Sorry for all the questions). Power heads you have to direct specifically. It would cover all three as it moves the whole water column. I would LOVE something to help move the waste along□ Powerheads are more filter pump based that shoot more direct streams where wavemaker move the whole column by creating small waves using basically a small fan/propeller. What’s the difference between a power head and wave maker? Wavemakers are newest technology and super popular in the industry. then you could put the powerhead on a timer for a limited time everyday. They help push waste towards filtration, help elimination oxygen dead zones in the tank, and provide opportunities for fish to use muscle. Using a powerhead in a tropical fish tank can help keep it clean by moving around waste and helping the filter obtain it. Researching things on our fish tanks is the best way. Posted by Michelle D: I’m glad to see that you are reaching out for some help instead of learning things the hard way. Topic: I just setup a new fish aquarium a week ago and I was wondering should I get a power head? What are their purposes/benefits? It seems like a lot of people use them.
